Alexandria, MN Real Estate

Alexandria had its beginning when two young brothers from Delaware, Alexander and William Kinkead, helped settle the area that is now known as Alexandria. By Autumn of 1859, Alexander established a United States Post Office in his log cabin and served as the Postmaster. It was then that the town site was named after its postmaster, Alexander Kinkead. Through the years, Alexander became a stopping off point for travelers journeying to Fargo, North Dakota, from the Twin Cities. Later, Alexandria developed as a quaint resort town.

Alexandria is located 135 miles northwest of Minneapolis along the Interstate 94 corridor at the midpoint between Minneapolis and Fargo. Today, the City is widely-known as a resort destination full of cozy bed and breakfasts and inns, "main street" shopping and recreational lakes. The only thing better than visiting a resort getaway is living there!

Alexandria Lakes Area is reminiscent of a major metro complex with its abundance of dining options and clubs as well as a huge variety of shopping opportunities ranging from small specialty shops in Downtown to major commercial mega stores just outside of Downtown. Many of the area's restaurants are adjacent to lakes and marinas for those arriving by water. There is plenty of room for Alexandria to grow; development spans in all directions from retail and business to residential.

Alexandria area is abundant with city, county and state parks featuring a variety of amenities including hiking and biking, skiing and skating. The Central Lakes Trail stretches 55 miles from Fergus Falls to Osakis and will soon join the Lake Woebegone Trail to continue on to Sauk Centre. The trail winds through pristine areas of woods, rivers and streams, lakes, farm land, hardwood forests, and prairies as well as through ten communities along the way. Trail patrons can find restaurants and shopping in the communities on or near the trail, including Downtown Alexandria.

Alexandria residents enjoy a good quality of life in a relaxed, family-friendly environment. Homes are spacious; many prime properties are right on the water and are built with large windows and decks to take advantage of the beautiful waterscape. If you're looking to escape the rigors of big-city living, Alexandria will likely provide a very pleasing backdrop for a slower pace.
