Andover, MN Real Estate

Welcome to beautiful Andover, and let's start out by disseminating a widely-believed myth about how this town was named. Settlers originally came to this area around 1857 and named it Round Lake Township. Legend has it that there was a big train wreck that landed an engine in a swamp and a witness described it as rolling "over and over." In reality, the tracks hadn't even been laid at the time when the town was first referred to as Andover, and it's most likely because the new train station that was planned for the area was named Andover, so the city took it's name from the train station, rather than the other way around. The jury is still out on how the railway came up with "Andover" in the first place.

Currently, Andover is a dynamic and growing community, located about 20 miles north of Downtown Minneapolis. Rural and mostly residential, the area consists of homes of varying styles and sizes, from huge ramblers and soaring two-stories to condos, town homes and more modest subdivisions. The neighborhoods range from cozy and quaint, to sprawling and roomy and there's a house and a lot for almost any price range. The city adds approximately 350 new homes each year, and has major commercial and business development plans in the works with the advent of "Andover Station," a 90-acre redevelopment that will house upscale retail service-oriented businesses, office space and restaurants.

The area boasts many natural areas for the active young adult or family, including Kelsey Round Lake Park, a 136-acre nature area, and part of the expansive Anoka County Bunker Hills Regional Park where one can go hiking, cross-country skiing and camping. The Rum River Central Regional Park is located immediately north of Andover, on County Road 7.

For a more social atmosphere, head over to Pov's Sports Bar and Grill; it boasts one "monster" HD big screen TV, and three smaller versions, live music on the weekend, 11 pool tables, arcade and softball fields league participants don't have far to go to celebrate or commiserate after the game! Tanner's SteakHouse gets good reviews from the locals as well, especially on the prime ribs. By all accounts, this is a rapidly expanding area that is adding a great deal of residential and commercial property to its limits over the coming years. Stay tuned to Andover to see what's next!
