Blaine, MN Real Estate

The city of Blaine is located north of the Twin Cities, approximately 18 miles, making it a convenient commute. This is a dynamic, growing, and active community that's seen a burst of business and residential development in recent years. The first permanent settler to the area was a former slave, Green Chambers. He arrived around 1865. Since the area was rich in wetlands and the soil too sandy to yield decent crops, the primary early land use was hunting.

Today, the area is a planned mix of business, light manufacturing, commercial-retail and residential-and the plan seems to be working as Blaine was named one of Money Magazine's Top 100 places to live in 2006. Several large companies have claimed Blaine for their headquarters including Aveda, Dayton Rogers Manufacturing and the Anoka County Airport.

Blaine is probably best-known for its gigantic, state-of-the-art Olympic National Sports Center which includes 52 outdoor soccer, lacrosse, rugby, and ultimate frisbee fields (host of the World Junior Soccer Tournament), velodome, eight indoor ice sheets with two dryland training facilities, sports hall with basketball courts, two indoor soccer fields, indoor track, volleyball courts, outdoor 12,000-seat stadium that hosts the Minnesota State Track and Field Championships as well as on-site residence hall and conference/expo space.

A nice complement to the Sports Center is the Tournament Players Club golf course which hosts the Senior Pro Golf Tournament. For the slightly-below-world-class sports enthusiast, there is Brunswick Lanes bowling, Foss swimming and pool complex, and over 70 miles of trails and 60 parks with playing fields and courts-making Blaine an outdoor recreation destination for people of all abilities.

Homes and property in the area are spacious, beautiful and well-maintained. There are numerous new subdivisions with luxurous walkout ramblers and multi-levels. Some sport new Colonial and Victorian revivals, Craftsman and even log cabin motifs. This town is a must-see for young families and there's enough activity and it's proximate enough to Downtown Minneapolis to warrant a serious look by young adults seeking that first town home or condo investment opportunity.
