Brooklyn Center, MN Real Estate

Brooklyn Center was formerly part of Brooklyn and Crystal Townships. Traditionally an agricultural settlement, Brooklyn Center became a city in 1966. The city is now a mix of business, light industrial and residential areas along the scenic shores of the Mississippi River. This community is well-established and caters to the needs of both families and a growing older adult population with kid-friendly and senior community involvement opportunities including fitness and sports leagues for kids, and activities, social clubs and trips for "Boomers and Beyond." Much of this activity takes place at the community center which houses a pool, waterslide and exercise room. There are 23 parks in the area that include playgrounds, picnic areas and ball fields. Palmer Lake Park Reserve is the largest natural environmental preserve in the city at over 200 acres of land.

Brooklyn Center is a diverse, working class suburb--the kind of place that embodies the Midwestern values of hard work and cultural appreciation and acceptance. Approximately one third of the population is considered "ethnic," and the city takes pride in this identification by recognizing a different cultural and ethnic heritage each month, among a few of these are African American, Native American, and Asian and Pacific Islanders. Many local business and restaurants reflect this diversity. For example, Vallartas-a bright and cheery Mexican restaurant where the chicken endiablado and margaritas come highly recommended!

Most Brooklyn Center homes remain from the turn of the century through the boom period when hundreds of residences were added to the community in the early fifties through the sixties to handle the population influx. Typically multi-level and split level ramblers, many homes have been updated to reflect current standards. Brookdale Mall serves your major shopping needs with several smaller retail venues as well as some department stores, and a bevy of fast food and major chain restaurants are a short drive away. If it's the nightlife you crave, Downtown Minneapolis is only 10 miles away on Interstate 94, providing all the dining and entertainment options you could possibly desire.

Brooklyn Center is served by Metro Transit, which will be expanding its existing service to the Northwest suburbs, including Brooklyn Center, beginning in 2007. Rather than fight through the morning and evening commute, jump on a Metro Transit express bus, catch up on the headlines and alight a few feet from your office or nearest skyway entrance in a few short minutes. Brooklyn Center is a great area if you're looking for a more settled community with abundant history and diversity.
