Chaska, MN Real Estate

The Dakota were the primary Nation in this region known as the "Big Woods." During the 1800s, as the land that would eventually be Chaska began to be recognized by European settlers, Jean Baptiste Fairbault established a trading post along the Minnesota River. An abundance of high quality clay led to the start of a thriving brick making industry in 1857. Other industries began to thrive in the early 1900s, including the processing of beet sugar and other agricultural products; flour making, butter making, the canning of peas, corn, and tomatoes, and the curing of sauerkraut and pickles.

Today, the Chaska community can be characterized as a solid mix of light industrial, commercial, business and residential entities all living together quite harmoniously. Dozens of modern industries are located here while residential construction adds 100 to 300 new homes per year and commercial business continues to expand offering a variety of retail and service opportunities to its residents. Redevelopment of commercial areas in downtown Chaska began in the 1980s and continued through the '90s. The community has seen a lot of growth and taken active steps to plan and maintain to ensure the preservation of its history as well as the small town atmosphere that its residents cherish.

Chaska is a well-developed, progressive, enthusiastic and still-forming community located about 26 miles southwest of Minneapolis. Widely acclaimed as golf country, Chaska is home to Hazeltine Golf Course, the location for the PGA Championship--past and future, and home to one of the best public golf courses in the state: Chaska Town Course. There are plenty of family-friendly arts and recreation opportunities via the very active community center and the Chaska Valley Family Theatre, a community theatre for the whole family that produces 3-5 quality productions a year. Annual community events that draw visitors from across the metro are River City Days and Taste of Chaska.

Chaska is home to the "Jonathan Community," a planned residential community that received national attention for its intentional design to foster community-building by connecting neighborhoods with parks and trails, community mail boxes and covenants that served the neighborhoods. Maintaining that progressive spirit, Chaska was also one of the first Minnesota cities to enact city-wide Wi-fi service.

Regarding upcoming development, Chaska's future looks bright: Highway 212 is a main U.S. thoroughfare beginning at Yellowstone National Park and ending in Edina, MN; the portion that runs through Chaska is currently being re-developed and once complete could impart a population boom in the area. This community is certainly one to watch for rapid growth and changes in the future.
