Faribault, MN Real Estate

Faribault (pronounced "Faribo") is located 50 miles due south of the Twin Cities metro area, along Interstate Highway 35W and near the city of Northfield. Alexander Faribault, an early fur-trader and entrepreneur, founded the town site in 1852 to take advantage of its scenic qualities, abundant resources, and strategic location.

In the 1860's, Faribault garnered a reputation as an educational and religious center due to the efforts of Bishop Henry Whipple who developed a system of interrelated churches and schools. This, along with the establishment of the highly acclaimed State Academies for the Blind and Deaf, led Faribault to be known as "Athens of the West." As the community grew, several homes, churches, and public buildings were constructed with unique architectural design features and are preserved to this day.

Today, Faribault is a dynamic and growing community situated at the confluence of the Cannon and Straight Rivers. The community enjoys the advantages and conveniences of being near a major metropolitan center (Minneapolis and St. Paul) while providing the livability of a small town. Faribault offers an atmosphere of planned, well-managed growth. Today, Faribault boasts a vibrant business community, excellent educational opportunities, and a wide variety of recreational and cultural offerings, all of which make the community a great place to visit, work, and live.

The community features an extensive park system comprised of 23 facilities including play equipment, ball fields, picnic areas, sand volleyball courts, hockey rinks, a BMX bike track, trails, nature areas, fishing pier, canoe lake access points and archery range. There's also the Riverbend Nature Center and the Faribault Art Center to engage the family. This is a nice, family-oriented community with a lot of long-time residents as well as many recent arrivals. Families, in particular, will find a lot of value here in the many community events and services and natural amenities.
