Farmington, MN Real Estate

The "village of farms" was initially settled by pioneer families from New York and later by Civil War veterans who then became Farmington's first merchants, manufacturers, doctors, lawyers and educators. Farmington developed into a railroad hub serving the rural areas that surrounded the city as well as a milling community, utilizing the waters of the Vermillion River. Farmington incorporated in 1872.

Today, Farmington is a rapidly-growing community, doubling its population in the last ten years. Farmington is located on the southern edge of the Twin Cities metro area. With a traditional downtown district and new residential developments situated with the traditional farms and natural resources like the Vermillion River, Farmington continues to strive to improve the quality of life of its existing residents by initiating responsible, controlled growth developments, attractive amenities and continuing to preserve a healthy environment.

The City of Lakeville sits to the west and north of Farmington, while Empire Township is located to the east, Castle Rock Township on the south and Eureka Township to the southwest of the City. The heart of Farmington is a traditional, well-preserved small town with the area to the east consisting of low-density residential developments situated around public greens, many of which include lower cost starter homes.

The newest housing is in the northern section of the city, near Lakeville. These homes are typical of suburban subdivision growth: uniform structures, single-family residences in the multi-level and rambler tradition. Farmington plans for controlled growth through the year 2020, anticipating the population to fully triple by that time. The community plans to unite the seemingly disjointed southern and northern sides of the city, add many new residential housing developments, as well as business and commercial space. The community is also highly committed to preserving the 30 percent of its land that is currently designated as green space and lends to the rural feel of the City.

This is a dynamic, expanding community that is generally self-contained. One can find almost any item or service that they might need within the city limits. The community is already responding to the needs of the many young families that call Farmington home, so this would be a nice place to relocate a family.
