Lauderdale, MN Real EstateLauderdale was originally part of the Rose Township settled around 1843 and was known as "Rosehill." Located just seven miles north of downtown Minneapolis, Lauderdale is a first-ring, mixed-use suburb described as the "island in the Metro." This distinction was probably earned because of its location surrounded by the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course in Lauderdale on the east, St. Paul on the south, Roseville on the north and Minneapolis on the west. The City's geographic location and layout enhance Lauderdale's appeal and independence as a small community, as well as its primary function as a residential community with industrial and commercial uses to follow. Lauderdale is minutes from downtown St. Paul, downtown Minneapolis, and from Interstate Highway 94, making it a convenient drive or bus ride to any of these areas. In the upcoming decade, Lauderdale will be implementing a comprehensive updating plan that will make the community an even more pleasant place to live, including replacing or repairing storm and sanitary sewers, replacing streets and installing curbs and gutters. Lauderdale will also be working to redevelop both the Larpenteur Avenue corridor, and the property located along Highway 280. The City features an abundance of starter homes, and more multiple family dwellings than single-family virtually ensuring that a person of almost any income range will have many attractive options to choose from here. Homes tend to be of older, rambler, multi-level, or cape cod styles, well-maintained and each with a unique charm. Lauderdale provides plenty of recreation space in proximity to these residential neighborhoods. The city's main park contains playground equipment, tennis courts, archery targets, a hockey rink and figure skating rink, a sand volleyball court, and a covered shelter along with plenty of open space. This is where a lot of the city-wide events such as National Night Out, Day in the Park, Halloween Party and Snow Commotion take place. In addition, Lauderdale manages a nature area with trails. Older residents who have lived here much or all of their lives make up a substantial part of the population, but young professionals just starting out or students attending the nearby universities make up over a third of the population. Mature families, older parents and their children round out the diverse group--so many types of people find a reason to come and stay in Lauderdale.
