Lino Lakes, MN Real Estate

Lino Lakes is located about 25 miles northeast of the Twin Cities but it feels more distant and secluded as it is located in the heart of the Rice Creek Chain County Regional Park Reserve. As such, this is a primarily residential community with barely a retail outlet to speak of. If it's pure, unfettered living you're after, you'll definitely find it here.

The area was first occupied by Dakota Indians, who found the combination of generous amounts of wetlands and wooded areas perfect for their lifestyle, which relied heavily upon harvesting wild rice as well as small game hunting. White settlers arrived in the 1850s, Germans, Swedes and French, and established Centerville Township. Eventually the name was changed to Lino Lakes. No one is absolutely sure how they came upon "Lino." In 1972, Lino Lakes became a city.

As mentioned previously, Rice Creek Chain County Regional Park Reserve is located right outside your door when you live in Lino Lakes! The 2,550 acres of woods and wetlands includes hiking, biking and cross country skiing trails, eight lakes, golf course, nature center, swimming beach, fishing piers, access points and a campground. The community sponsors organized activities for kids of all ages, including sports, arts, music and socializing opportunities. Or, teach the kids how to raise a prize-winning rabbit and join the local branch of 4H Club: the clerverly named "Lino Lakers."

Active older adults can access a senior center that offers classes and organizes events like trips to the Old Log Theater (one of Minnesota's finest). The community has development plans for future improvements to parks and trail systems, and addition and expansion of housing subdivisions, but is not focusing on attracting large commercial retail or businesses to the area. For an area as rich in natural beauty as this, it's probably for the best!

Homes here maximize the surrounding landscape by incorporating decks, large picture windows, skylights and sunrooms into their designs. Many of these ramblers, and split and multi-levels are located near ponds, creeks or trails, and there's a type of home to fit just about any budget, or if you're a particularly discerning homebuyer, there's plenty of room to build within one of the fine neighborhoods or subdivisions.
