Norwood Young America was formed in 1997 when the cities of Norwood and Young America merged. The city is a growing semi-rural small town community located on the fringe of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Approximately 35 miles west of Minneapolis, the City of Norwood Young America is situated in western Carver County.

This rural area is proud of its German heritage, and celebrates with its annual Stiftungsfest celebration. Meaning "founders day," Stiftungsfest might be the longest-running community celebration in the state and includes German music under the "big tent," arts and crafts show, entertainment for children, ethnic foods such as roast beef dinners brats and kraut, Schell's 1919 Root Beer and, of course, a beer garden. The original settlement of both villages, Young America and Norwood, was by German immigrants who brought their traditions and customs to their new home in the rural countryside of Carver County.

As the population of the region has grown along with the metro area at large, so has the variety of industries, services, and businesses located in the area. Today, Norwood Young America is a prime location for new business and industry, with its close proximity to a variety of modes of transportation including several State and County Highways, two active rail lines, and within close proximity to Interstate Highway 494, Norwood Young America is easily accessible. Businesses such as Heritage Point, Young America Corporation, Bongard's Creameries, Lano's Equipment, Hydro Engineering and Manufacturing, Lakeview Clinic, Expert Construction, Topline Landscaping, and Statewide Gas Services have all capitalized on the City's convenient location.

The affluent southwestern suburbs, including nearby Eden Prairie, Chanhassen and Chaska are home to a variety of shopping centers, movie theaters, and restaurants. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor recreation both in and around the Norwood Young America, including golf courses, hiking trails, hunting and fishing all within easy access to residents. Norwood Young America is a solid city in which to relocate; it's up-and-coming in the southwestern suburbs and if the community is able to plan for and direct its growth, with time, could become an influential suburban city.
