Oakdale, MN Real EstateOakdale is a quintessential St. Paul suburb nestled in the St. Croix River Valley, nine miles northeast of St. Paul. A mix of commercial, industrial, residential, and recreational amenities create an ideal place to live and work. Oakdale Township was formed in 1858, consisting of 36 square miles. The early settlers were primarily farmers and many farming operations remain in the area on the fringes of the city. During the winter, in the '30s, the main industry was cutting ice from Tanners Lake for use in ice boxes during the summer months. In 1926, a portion of this area became Lake Elmo. In 1974, Oakdale was designed a city. Located near main highways Interstate 94 and 694, Oakdale is a lovely, family-friendly community that offers many natural amenities, community activities and recreation options to its residents. There are several regional parks and golf courses in the area including Rich Walton Memorial Park, Eberie Park, Battle Creek Regional Park, Sunfish Park, and Oakdale Park, a 220-acre "passive" recreation area including nature center and Mud Lake, hiking and biking trails, cross-country ski trails, tennis courts, picnic areas, and observation dock. The vast Lake Elmo Park Reserve is 2,165 acres of gently rolling hills with forest and prairie. Wildlife includes pheasants, weasels, red fox, woodpeckers, cardinals, cottontail rabbits, squirrels and white-tailed deer. Amenities include: archery range, boat launch, equestrian, group and modern campgrounds, canoe access points, fishing pier, orienteering course, picnic areas, play structures, swimming, trails for cross country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, running, and winter walking. For the more refined outdoors-person there is Oakdale Greens, Oak Marsh Golf Club and Hillcrest Country Club. The city provides numerous commercial and chain dining options, strip malls and Oakdale Mall provide everything you need within a convenient commute to St. Paul. Oakdale is a convenient 20-minute drive to Stillwater, a beautiful, tourist heavy area that offers great historic downtown shopping: gift and antique shops, bookstores, coffee shops, clothing and home stores, and restaurants overlooking the St. Croix River. Homes in the area are wide-ranging from well-preserved 1930's Victorian and Queen Anne revivals, quaint 1950s and 1960s ramblers and split levels, to bright, new housing subdivisions boasting multi-levels and larger, more luxurious ramblers with golf course views. Multi-family residences are an option here and the city is looking to develop more town home and condo housing in the future. Oakdale is a nice community, best equipped to meet the needs of families.
