Roseville, MN Real Estate

The land that Roseville stands on was originally home to the Dakota and Ojibway. The first white settlers arrived in 1843. Rose Township was established in 1850 and was so-named after one of the first settlers, Isaac Rose. The township included the areas now known as Roseville, Lauderdale, and Falcon Heights, as well as parts of present day Saint Paul and Minneapolis. The area saw rapid growth through the 1930's and 1940's. Roseville incorporated as a village in 1948.

Roseville is conveniently located on two major highways that loop the city (I-35W and State Highway 36). Roseville is the only city uniquely positioned to border both Minneapolis and St. Paul and is considered the retail and commercial hub of the northeast suburban area. The city can best be described as "family friendly" and quiet with several amenities at-hand and everything else close by, a healthy, well-developed suburban neighborbood consisting of a mix of residential, retail, and business (2,200 businesses employ 40,000 people).

Roseville's claim-to-fame is as home of the Guidant John Rose Oval, the world's largest outdoor artificial sheet of ice, consisting of 110,000 square feet of concrete surface used for both ice and inline skating depending on the outdoor temperature. The Oval's infield includes four hockey rinks and hosts hockey, bandy and general recreational skating. The Oval also is home to one of the Midwest's largest aggressive skate parks. More leisurely outdoor recreation can be enjoyed at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center: 52 acres of marsh, prairie and deciduous and pine forest, as well as 27 other parks within city limits, 660 acres of park land and 64 miles of trails for walking, running, biking or inline skating.

Homes in the area range from magnificent lakeside A-frames and ramblers to more modest and cozy single-story, split or multi-levels situated in mature neighborhoods and nearby parks. Town homes also present themselves as a great option.

The Local's Notebook:

Local Flavor: Roseville is home to almost every chain restaurant imaginable, from Applebees, Baker's Square, Old Chicago and Panera, to Famous Dave's Bar-B-Cue and Good Earth. If you're in the mood for a little nostalgia with your mid-day meal, try Snuffy's Malt Shop for an extra-thick, real ice cream malt, swiss-shroom burger and fries.

Area Shopping: Roseville ranks right up there with Edina (historic Southdale Mall) and Bloomington (Mall of America) in offering historic retail. Roseville is home to the first ever Target store (badly damaged in a 1991 tornado and since replaced with a Super Target), first ever Best Buy store, first Barnes and Noble outside of New York City, and first McDonald's built in Minnesota. Besides these landmark stores, you can get down to some serious shopping at Rosedale (1.2 million square feet!) and Har Mar Malls.

Around Town: Take in a movie at the local movie theater or catch a round of golf at the 9-hole Cedarholm Public Golf Course. Of course, both downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis are located mere minutes away!
